By the Shang Dynasty, silk production had already taken shape with a relatively high level of craftsmanship, and complex looms and weaving techniques had emerged. Oracle bone inscriptions contain characters for “silkworm,” “mulberry,” and “silk,” proving that sericulture already existed at that time.
