Mulberry Silk Scarves Care Guide

  1. Washing Mulberry Silk Scarves:
You don’t need to worry about shrinkage when washing mulberry silk scarves, but they should never be machine-washed. Avoid washing them with hot water (above 30°C / 86°F) or with other clothes. When hand washing, do not rub or wring the fabric vigorously. Instead, gently foam and rub the scarf. The key is to handle it with care, using a very gentle technique, and avoid soaking it for long periods of time.

  2. Avoid Harsh Detergents:
Mulberry silk scarves should not be washed with regular detergent or soap, as this can cause the fabric to yellow and become stiff. Use an acidic or mild alkaline detergent designed for silk, such as a specialized silk detergent, or a mild neutral detergent. If you don’t have silk-specific detergent, you can use high-quality shampoo or body wash as an alternative. Choosing the right detergent is crucial for preserving the quality of your silk scarf.

  3. Drying Mulberry Silk Scarves:
Do not wring out mulberry silk scarves by hand. Instead, gently press out excess water. Never expose your silk scarf to direct sunlight, as this can cause fading. Always dry it in the shade to maintain its vibrant color and texture.

  4. Storage Tips:
When not in use, store your mulberry silk scarf in a paper bag and hang it up to prevent it from getting squashed. While mulberry silk is naturally resistant to insects, it’s still best to use natural insect-repellent spices when storing it. Be careful to avoid sharp objects that could snag the fabric, and try not to rub the scarf against rough surfaces.

  5. Ironing Mulberry Silk Scarves:
Mulberry silk scarves are prone to wrinkling and may need occasional ironing. Always use a low temperature setting on the iron. High heat can damage the delicate silk fibers. Iron the scarf when it’s about 80% dry, and avoid spraying water directly on it. Iron on the reverse side of the scarf and maintain the temperature between 100°C (212°F) and 180°C (356°F).
